Ontario Power Authority's Demand Response 3 (DR3) Program

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has initiated ambitious goals for reducing strain on the electricity grid. Through the OPA DR3 program, Ontario’s commercial and industrial businesses can generate revenue by participating in the solution.

Through the OPA's DR3 program, your business can receive monthly financial incentives for contributing to the OPA’s electricity consumption reduction goals. Because there’s no cost to enroll or participate, the DR3 program offers a valuable way to generate revenue, improve your operational efficiency and support Ontario’s future. In addition, companies that are regularly reducing electricity consumption will also be lowering their overall energy bill, putting additional revenue dollars back into their bottom line.

OPA has selected Direct Energy Business to provide aggregation services for the DR3 program. We designed our services to provide the greatest value to participating businesses, including:

    • Elimination of risk. As your aggregator, we will absorb the OPA’s financial penalties associated with any shortfalls to your curtailment commitment.
    • Cost-effective program management. By pooling your Demand Response resources with those of other businesses in the region, we assume complex program management activities and maximize your program payments. We will facilitate enrollment, curtailment notification, event oversight, and settlement and payment distribution.
    • Streamlined curtailment notification. Leveraging a 24/7/365 Remote Operating Center, we’ll notify your designated personnel of pending curtailment events, with choices for automatic notification by e-mail, direct telephone, or fax.
