Measurement and Verification
The overall success to energy efficiency projects is dependent on measurement and verification to enable the proper tracking and reporting of energy data for analysis, performance, reporting, and budgeting purposes. Ongoing review and analysis of building performance ensures projects are meeting the predefined and desired targets.
Direct Energy Business Services utilizes three measurement and verification options, as accepted as per the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) Volume 1 – 2007:
Option 1 - Whole Facility: The Whole Facility approach is based on the long-term whole-building utility meter.
Option 2 - Retrofit Isolation: Retrofit Isolation determines the actual savings by field measurement of the energy use of the systems to which the energy conservation measures were applied separated from the energy use of the rest of the facility.
Option 3 - Calibrated Simulation: Calibrated Simulation uses computer modeling. It may be applied to this project as a part of evaluating a new addition to existing facilities.
